Heather Lyons and The Importance of World Building

Thurs. Oct. 22nd @ 5:30pm

Heather Lyons and The Importance of World Building
Presented by Coffee House Writers Group

During this month’s Shop Talk at Gatsby books, Coffee House Writers Group has invited author Heather Lyons to impart her wisdom about the craft of world building and the importance of setting in fiction writing.

Whether we write genre or literary fiction, an important element of story craft is the ability to create the world and setting that the characters inhabit. In this shop talk, our Ms. Lyons will provide a useful check list to keep in mind when writing about setting. Ms. Lyons will also provide helpful tips in making the setting of the story enhance character arcs and character development.

About our Speaker:
Heather Lyons is known for writing epic, heartfelt love stories often with a fantastical twist. From Young Adult to New Adult to Adult novels—one commonality in all her books is the touching, and sometimes heart-wrenching, romance. In addition to writing, she’s also been an archaeologist and a teacher. She and her husband and children live in sunny Southern California and are currently working their way through every cupcakery she can find. She has been featured by USA Today, The Paisley Reader, and has won UtopYA’s Protostar Prize in 2014.
